Rui Costa uses his passing range to find teammates between the lines, while Coluna helps to stretch the defence.

On the wings, Figo and C.Ronaldo provide immense width and directness. Figo uses his dribbling to beat his marker and whip crosses into the box. C.Ronaldo uses his explosive movement to cut inside from the left and arrive late into the box. This front three presses the opposition back line relentlessly to win the ball back high up the pitch.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly through numerical superiority in the midfield. By packing the center, the team can win the second ball and control the flow of play. The wide overloads created by the combination of the wingers and the attacking midfielders make it difficult for opponents to defend the flanks.
