Starting Lineup

Moreno · Van der Brempt · Engelhardt · Dossena · S. Roberto · Perrone · Cutrone · Paz · Strefezza · Da Cunha · Audero

Como aims to control the middle of the pitch through high numbers and central dominance, using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on a massive midfield presence to overwhelm opponents in the center. By pushing the players forward, the team seeks to dominate the ball and use their numbers to drive into the final third.

Audero guards the goal while the defensive unit relies on a very high line. Engelhardt and Dossena operate as the two central defenders in this narrow setup. They must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside or cover large spaces behind them. Because there are only two defenders, they have to be dominant in the air and quick to react to long balls.

The midfield is the engine of the Como lineup, utilizing a five man unit to congest the middle. Moreno and Van der Brempt sit as a double pivot to shield the two centre backs. Perrone and S. Roberto operate in the half spaces to connect the defense to the attack. Paz sits as the attacking ten, looking to play through the lines and find space between the opponent lines. This heavy midfield presence allows the team to recycle possession and win the second ball frequently.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defense. Cutrone leads the line as a pressing centre forward, looking to hold up the ball and bring others into play. Da Cunha stays wide on the left to provide width, while Strefezza operates on the right to cut inside and create chances. These attackers work to pin the last defender and create runs in behind the opposition.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. With five players in the central zone, Como can easily bypass the midfield of most opponents. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and the attacking midfielders to trigger a press as soon as the ball is lost.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for teams that want to dominate possession and squeeze the space in the center. It is best suited for matches where the team can control the tempo against opponents that struggle to manage high midfield numbers.
