Goiás aims to play a highly vertical game by catching opponents in transition through a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup relies on quick movement and direct play to bypass the opposition. By pushing many players into the attacking third, Goiás looks to overwhelm the defensive lines through sheer numbers and speed.

Harley stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back line consists of a narrow two man unit with Toloi/Sidnei and Edcarlos/ernando operating as central defenders. These players must be ready to step up to catch attackers offside or drop deep to cover space behind them. Because the formation lacks full backs, the defenders must be ready to tackle any runner coming from wide areas and win the second ball whenever possession is lost.

The midfield functions as a central block to control the middle of the pitch. Edilson sits as a single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Ahead of him, Paulo Baier, Sandro, and Sandro Goiano work to connect the defence and attack. Paulo Baier and Sandro can drive forward with the ball, while Sandro Goiano helps to occupy the half spaces. This midfield unit must compress the midfield when the team loses the ball to prevent central penetrations.

The attack utilizes four players to stretch the defence. Hugo plays on the left as an inverted winger to cut inside, while Chulapa/Dadá operates on the right. In the center, the team uses a partnership with Rodrigo Tabata and Fernandão/Grafite. These two forwards can work in combinations to find space between the lines. The goal is to use the wide players to pull defenders out of position, creating runs in behind for the centre forwards to exploit.

A major tactical advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads through the combination of wingers and the aggressive midfield. Goiás can also achieve numerical superiority in the attacking third by having four players push high. This allows the team to press from the front and win the ball back high up the pitch, forcing the opponent into mistakes.

Goiás uses this aggressive lineup to hunt for goals through rapid transitions and direct attacking play. It is a formation best suited for games where the team needs to take risks against a low block.
