The midfield is the engine room for Flamengo, functioning as a massive block of six players. David Luiz and Allan form a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept play. In front of them, Vidal and Filipe Luis work to carry the ball forward and connect the lines, while Rafinha provides additional cover to maintain control. Diego Ribas operates in the hole behind the striker to create chances and find the feet of the attacker.

Flamengo uses a single striker in Gabigol to lead the line. Gabigol often plays as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition back line and create space for others. The attack relies on the movements of Diego Ribas to supply service, looking to play through the lines or use the high volume of midfield players to launch attacks. The front line works to pull defenders out of position to allow late runs from the midfield.

This also allows for quick transitions when they win the ball high up the pitch and can move it rapidly to the attacker.
