Atalanta aims to dominate through high intensity and verticality in a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to press the opposition high up the pitch and win the ball back quickly to launch direct attacks. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to stretch the defence and create scoring opportunities through rapid transitions.

Martinez operates between the posts as the goalkeeper. The defensive unit consists of a back three where Martiarena acts as the central defender to hold the line. Illustre plays as the right centre-back and Pratdessus covers the left side. These defenders must be prepared to step up to squeeze the space or drop back to cover the space behind if the opposition hits in behind on the transition.

The midfield works as a central engine to control the tempo and connect the lines. Catrovilli and Mustafaraj operate in the middle to win the second ball and progress through the thirds. Petrolio and Acosta play as wide midfielders who provide the necessary width. Petrolio will push forward to overlap the wingers while Acosta tracks back to support the defensive block. In the attacking phase, Atalanta uses three forwards to pin the last defender. Torres plays as the lone striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Carrà and Pitronaci play as wide attackers who look to cut inside or pull wide to deliver crosses. These three players press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the build up of the opposition. The movement of the front line is designed to create runs in behind and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

One major strength of this Atalanta lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch. The formation also offers wide overloads when Petrolio and Acosta push up to support the wingers. This creates numerical superiority in wide areas and allows the team to switch play effectively to find an open man.
