Noble acts as a carrier to move the ball from deep, while Parker works to win the second ball and connect the defensive line to the attack. On the flanks, Bowen and Payet provide the width. Bowen stays high to challenge the opposition full back, while Payet looks to cut inside and create chances through the middle.

Up front, West Ham uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Di Canio plays as the main striker with his technical ability to hold up the ball and link play. Cottee plays alongside him to make runs in behind and attack the space. The attack relies on the movement of these two to pull defenders out of position. They press the opposition back line to force long balls and then look to break quickly once the ball is recovered.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for West Ham. The two central midfielders, Noble and Parker, allow the team to compress the midfield and deny the turn of opposing playmakers.
