Ludogorets relies on a defensively solid identity using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to play a counter attacking style of football by sitting deep and inviting the opposition forward. The main goal is to stay compact and deny space for the opponent to move between the lines. By keeping the lines close together, the team can quickly transition from a low block into a fast break.

Padt stays in goal to command his area and manage the defensive line. The back five is anchored by Pedro Naressi, Verdon, and Almeida. Pedro Naressi stays central to hold the line while Verdon and Almeida cover the space to his left and right. Witry and Son act as attacking wing backs to provide width during transitions. They must track back constantly to ensure the team maintains a narrow defensive block when the opposition has the ball.

The midfield works as a flat four to bridge the gap between defense and attack. Chochev and Piotrowski occupy the central roles to shield the defense and win the second ball. While Chochev often acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward, Piotrowski works to recycle possession and protect the central zone. Rick and Erick Marcus play on the flanks to provide width and press in a mid block. This unit works to squeeze the space in the middle and force the opposition to play wide.

Rwan leads the line as a lone striker. He must work hard to press the opposition back line and hold up the ball to allow his teammates to move up. When the team wins the ball, Rwan looks to hit in behind on the transition. Witry and Son push high to provide width, looking to deliver early crosses or cut it back to arriving runners. The team looks to use the combination of Rwan and the wide players to catch the defense out of position.

The formation provides great compactness when defending in a deep block. It is very hard for opponents to play through the middle because of the central presence of Pedro Naressi, Chochev, and Piotrowski. The team also benefits from wide overloads when Witry and Erick Marcus overlap to stretch the defense. This allows Ludogorets to switch play quickly and find space in the wide areas.

This formation is designed to frustrate attacking teams by staying compact and organized. It is best suited for games where the team needs to defend a lead or play against a much more possession based opponent.
