Boca focuses on a high press and verticality with this 4-2-4 formation. The lineup is built to stretch the defence and attack with speed through the channels. This system looks to win the ball high up the pitch and drive straight at the opposition back line to create chances.

BREY operates between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit holds a flat back four where DI LOLLO plays as a right-sided centre-back to provide coverage and strength. ROJO sits on the left to defend the central area and cover space behind the left back. SARACCHI acts as a left back to provide width, while ADVINCULA/BLONDEL fills the right back role to support the flank. The defenders work to defend zonally and keep the lines compact when the team sits in a mid-block.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to bridge the gap between the back four and the front four. BELMONTE works to shield the defence and win the second ball in central areas. MIRAMON connects the defensive and attacking lines, often looking to carry the ball forward or play short from the back to progress through the thirds. This pair must work hard to cover the space left when the wide attackers push high.

The attacking unit uses three wide players and two central forwards to pin the last defender. ZENON stays wide on the right to stretch the pitch, while ZEBALLOS plays on the left to cut inside and find space. In the middle, PALACIOS and CAVANI form a two-man partnership. CAVANI uses his experience to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates, while PALACIOS looks to make runs in behind. This front four aims to exploit the space between the opposition full backs and centre-backs.

Boca gains a significant advantage through the speed of transition when they win the ball. The formation allows for wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers. This creates many one on one situations for ZENON and ZEBALLOS to exploit. The presence of two strikers also ensures they can win the header or fight for second balls in the box.

This 4-2-4 formation is designed for high intensity attacking and rapid counters. It is best suited for games where Boca can press the opponent high and catch them out of position.
