Starting Lineup

1 · Battaglia · Rojo · Advincula · Blanco · 2 · Herrera · 8 · Velasco · Zenón · Cavani

Boca aims to control games through high intensity and direct attacking play using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to press high up the pitch and create mismatches in the final third through rapid transitions. The team seeks to win the ball high up the pitch to catch the opposition before they can get organized.

Between the posts, 1 manages the defensive line and communicates the pressing triggers. The back line functions as a back three with Battaglia acting as the central anchor to hold the line. To his left, Rojo operates as a ball playing defender who can step up to intercept play, while 2 provides cover as the right centre back. The unit aims to maintain a high line to squeeze the space in the middle of the park.

In the middle of the park, Herrera and 8 form a two man midfield to control the center. Herrera works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession, while 8 acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball. The wide players, Advincula and Blanco, operate as wing backs to provide width. Advincula pushes forward to overlap the winger, whereas Blanco covers the left flank to help the defense and expand the pitch during the build up.

The attacking trio of Zenón, Velasco, and Cavani focuses on stretching the defence. Velasco and Zenón act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create space for the wide players to overlap. Cavani plays as a pressing centre forward who uses his strength to hold up the ball and link up play with the runners. This front line works to pin the last defender and create runs in behind through quick combinations.

One major advantage for Boca is the ability to create wide overloads when Advincula and Blanco push high to support the attackers. The formation also allows for a coordinated high press where the front three and the midfield can trap the opponent in their own half. This setup provides great flexibility to shift between a mid block and a high press depending on where the ball is located.

This 3-4-3 lineup relies on heavy pressing and quick transitions to dominate the game. It is best suited for facing teams that play a high line and struggle to deal with rapid vertical movement.
