Boca looks to control games through a compact mid-block and rapid transitions, utilizing a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the space between the lines and rely on a hardworking unit to win the ball back before hitting the opposition on the break. The team aims to stay hard to beat in central areas while remaining ready to use the technical ability of their midfielders to move the ball forward.

BREY stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back four operates as a flat line where DI LOLLO acts as a dominant presence in the air to clear crosses. ROJO plays as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back, while SARACCHI acts as an attacking full back to provide width on the left. ADVINCULA/BLONDEL occupies the right side to help defend the flank and support the forward movements. The defensive unit works to hold a compact shape and force the opposition into wide areas.

A five man midfield acts as the engine of the Boca lineup. BELMONTE and MIRAMON form a double pivot to shield the defence and protect the center of the pitch. ZENON operates as a creative force to link the defensive and attacking lines, while ZEBALLOS and PALACIOS occupy the half spaces to provide extra passing options. The midfielders aim to press aggressively to win the ball high and then quickly find the attackers. This group works to recycle possession and ensure the team is never outnumbered in the middle.

The attacking phase relies on a lone striker, CAVANI, who plays as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition back line. CAVANI uses his intelligent movement to find space and hold up the ball for late runners. The wide midfielders and the central midfielders look to make runs into the box to support him. The team creates chances through quick combinations in transition and by using the width provided by SARACCHI to whip it in. CAVANI often drops deep to link up play, allowing the midfielders to push higher.

This formation offers a high level of compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The double pivot of BELMONTE and MIRAMON allows for quick transitions when the ball is recovered. Boca can also use numerical superiority in the midfield to dominate possession if they choose to push the line higher. The ability to switch play quickly between the wide players and the central creators creates constant pressure.

Boca utilizes this 4-5-1 to remain defensively solid while maintaining a threat on the counter. It is a formation best suited for matches against dominant teams where sitting deep and hitting on the break is necessary.
