Segarra works to shield the defence and intercept passes, while Zárraga carries the ball forward to break the line. They act as the bridge between the defence and the attacking unit. Sitting just ahead of them, L.Suarez and Kubalal operate as two tens who play in the half spaces. L.Suarez looks to receive on the half turn to play through the lines, while Kubalal makes late runs into the box to arrive as a threat.

The attacking front line is designed to be direct and punishing. Di Stefano leads the line as a lone striker who knows how to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. On the flanks, Basora and F.Gento act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to provide maximum width. F.Gento uses his pace to knock it in behind the defensive line, whereas Basora looks to get to the byline and deliver early crosses. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball and win it back high up the pitch. They combine in tight spaces to find the feet of the striker or create one on one situations on the wing.

The main tactical advantage of this Spain formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the midfield. By having Segarra, Zárraga, L.Suarez, and Kubalal all involved, the team can compress the midfield and win the second ball. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can switch play quickly to the wide players. This allows the team to isolate wide players in one on one situations against full backs.
