Starting Lineup

Czechia relies on a direct and vertical style of play using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup aims to stretch the opposition by utilizing heavy numbers in the final third and looking to hit the opponent quickly during transitions. The goal is to create high pressure in the opponent's half and use the speed of the forwards to punish any defensive errors.

Kinský guards the goal and oversees the defensive line. The back four consists of Douděra at right back, Holeš and Krejčí as the central defenders, and Bořil at left back. Holeš and Krejčí work to hold a high line and defend zonally to manage space between the lines. Douděra and Bořil provide width but must track back quickly to help the central defenders when the team loses possession. The unit works to maintain a compact distance between the defenders and the midfield to prevent the opposition from playing through the middle.

A double pivot in midfield provides the link between the defense and the attack. Souček and Červ occupy the central roles, acting as the engine of the Czechia side. Souček uses his aerial strength and physical presence to win the second ball and shield the defense. Červ works to connect the play and carries the ball forward to find the attackers. This pairing must be disciplined to ensure they do not get caught too far up the pitch, allowing them to drop into a mid-block when the team is without the ball.

The attacking line is built around four players designed to pin the last defender. Šulc and Schick operate as a central partnership, with Schick often acting as a focal point to hold up the ball for others. Hložek and Černý play as wide attackers, with Hložek often looking to cut inside from the left to create more central presence. This front four is designed to press from the front and force a long ball from the opposition. The movement of these players creates runs in behind and allows the team to attack in combinations when they break quickly.

The main advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the attacking third. By having four players high up the pitch, Czechia can isolate defenders in one on one situations and overwhelm the back line. The team also benefits from the strength of the double pivot to win the ball back and immediately transition into an attack. This ability to compress the pitch and strike with speed makes them very dangerous on the counter.
