Colón focuses on defensive solidity and rapid transitions to catch opponents off guard. This team is built to play with a high degree of compactness and is organized in a 5-3-2 formation. The goal is to sit deep and strike quickly on the break.

Burián stands as the goalkeeper and is responsible for commanding the area. The defence functions as a narrow defensive block with five players. Roldán sits in the center to act as a covering defender and win the header in key moments. Trossero and Villaverde operate on either side of him to provide a sturdy line. Araos and Fernández push high as attacking wing backs to stretch the defence when the team wins possession. This back five works to squeeze the space and deny the turn to any oncoming attackers.

The midfield operates with a three-man trio that connects the layers. Saralegui plays as an attacking ten, looking to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines. Aliendro and Álvarez form the engine room. Aliendro carries the ball forward to drive the team into the final third, while Álvarez works to shield the defence and win the second ball. This group aims to compress the midfield and trigger a press when the opposition tries to build play.

Up front, Colón utilizes a partnership of two forwards. Fuertes and Rodríguez work together to exploit the space left by advancing opponents. Fuertes often works to hold up the ball and lay it off. Rodríguez focuses on making runs in behind to hit in behind on the transition. They press from the front to force a long ball, allowing the defenders to clear the lines and regain control. The wing backs, Araos and Fernández, overlap the winger to provide constant width.

The formation offers several tactical advantages, most notably the ability to create wide overloads. When Araos and Fernández push up, they pin the last defender and create chances from the flanks. The team also benefits from a high level of compactness when defending in a mid-block. This makes it very difficult for opponents to find gaps between the lines. Additionally, the speed of transition allows the team to move from a low block to a direct attack in seconds.

The 5-3-2 formation provides Colón with a very tough defensive identity. It is best suited for matches against possession-based sides that leave space behind their back line.
