Juventus Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Di Gregorio · Antonio Silva · Araujo · Kalulu · Cambiaso · De Jong · Thuram · Koopmeiners · Yildiz · Conceiçao · Kolo MuaniJuventus aims to play a direct and defensively solid game using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball and using quick transitions to hurt the opposition. By using a heavy defensive base, the team stays compact and looks to move the ball forward rapidly once possession is regained. Every player in this formation is built to sit deep and strike quickly.
Di Gregorio sits between the posts to command the area. A back five serves as the defensive foundation with De Jong acting as the central anchor to sweep behind a high line. Araujo plays as the right center back, using his aerial strength and recovery speed to cover the space. Antonio Silva plays as the left center back to provide cover. On the flanks, Kalulu works as an attacking wing back on the right to push up, while Cambiaso operates as an attacking wing back on the left. This unit can shift into a narrow defensive block to deny the turn of any incoming attackers.
A double pivot controls the center of the pitch. Koopmeiners plays in the right central midfield role, using his passing range to find teammates in advanced positions. Thuram occupies the left central midfield spot to help shield the defense and connect the lines. These two players must work hard to press in a mid block and win the second ball. They drive forward with the ball to link the defense with the front three, often dropping deep to receive from the center backs to help play out from the back.
In the final third, Juventus utilizes three attackers. Kolo Muani leads the line as a pressing center forward to pin the last defender and hold up the ball. Yildiz plays on the left as an inverted winger to cut inside and create chances, while Conceiçao stays wide on the right to stretch the defense. These wingers often pull wide to create space in the middle for the midfielders to arrive late into the box. Such movements encourage the wing backs, Kalulu and Cambiaso, to overlap the winger and deliver crosses into the area.
This formation offers significant defensive stability through the central presence of De Jong, Araujo, and Antonio Silva. Maintaining a back five makes it very hard for opponents to find space between the lines. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Kalulu and Cambiaso push high. By sending the wing backs forward, the team can pin the opposition back and create numerical superiority on the flanks during attacking phases.
This 5-2-3 formation provides a heavy defensive base that is perfect for controlling games against much stronger attacking sides. It is an ideal lineup for teams that want to hit in behind on the transition.
