Leoni plays a more cautious role, sitting in front of the defense to intercept passes and deny the pivot of the opposition. This duo must be able to recycle possession and shift quickly to cover the wide areas when the full backs push up. They are the link that allows the team to transition from defense to attack.

In the attacking phase, the team employs four players across the front. Sternal and Huerta operate as wide attackers, with Sternal looking to stretch the defense by hugging the touchline and Huerta looking to cut inside into the half-spaces. The central presence is provided by a partnership of Stroeykens and Dolberg. Dolberg is used to hold up the ball and find the feet of Stroeykens, allowing others to join the attack. Stroeykens makes sharp runs in behind to attack the far post. The movement is designed to create overlaps and allow players to arrive late into the box.
