PSG plays a high press game with an aggressive 2-4-4 formation. This lineup aims to dominate the pitch by squeezing the opposition in their own half and winning the ball back high up the pitch. Donnarumma stands between the posts to act as a sweeper behind a very high line. The defensive unit relies on a central pairing of Marquinhos and L. Hernandez to handle direct attacks. Marquinhos provides aerial strength and leadership to organize the line, while L. Hernandez acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back. Because of the lack of full backs, these two central defenders must stay narrow to cover the central space and be ready to sprint back if the opposition breaks quickly.

In the middle of the pitch, the team uses a double pivot to control the center. Hakimi and Beraldo work together to shield the defense, with Beraldo often dropping between the centre backs to receive the ball. Hakimi uses his pace to carry the ball forward and help the transition. Ahead of them, Ruiz and Vitinha operate in the half spaces. Vitinha uses his passing range to switch play, while Ruiz works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by finding pockets of space between the opponent midfield and defense.

The attacking front line is heavy with four players designed to stretch the defense. Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia occupy the wide areas, with Dembélé looking to isolate a one on one on the flank and Kvaratskhelia cutting inside to threaten the box. In the center, G. Ramos and Asensio operate as a forward partnership. G. Ramos acts as a pressing centre forward to force long balls, while Asensio looks to arrive late into the box or link up play between the lines. This group works to pin the last defender and create space for late runners.

One major advantage for PSG is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build out from the back. The formation also creates massive wide overloads when the midfielders push up to support the wingers. By occupying so many central and wide zones, the team can win the second ball frequently and launch immediate attacks.
