Puebla Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Jiménez · Rivas · Gularte · Orona · Ferrareis · Angulo · Waller · Castillo · Quiñones · Gómez · RoblesPuebla aims to play with high intensity and quick transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a direct style of football that uses wide players to stretch the opponent. By using a front three, the team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and move quickly toward the goal.
Jiménez starts in goal to oversee the defensive unit. The back line consists of a back three featuring Rivas, Gularte, and Orona. Gularte acts as the central defender to win the header and clear the lines, while Rivas and Orona provide cover on either side. This unit works to hold a high line to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch. They must stay compact and move together to defend zonally when the opposition tries to play through the lines.
The midfield relies on a central trio of Angulo, Ferrareis, and Castillo to control the center of the pitch. Castillo works to shield the defence and sit deep to collect the ball. Angulo and Ferrearis operate as central midfielders who carry the ball forward to link the defensive and attacking lines. Waller plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the striker or provide passes into the channels. This midfield group must work hard to press in a mid-block and deny the turn to opposing players.
Puebla attacks with three forwards. Robles acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and engage the opposition centre-backs. Gómez and Quiñones operate as wide attackers who cut inside to create central presence. They look to pull wide to create space for Waller to move into the box. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, allowing the back three to win the second ball. The goal is to use combinations in tight spaces to break the line of the defence.
One major advantage for Puebla is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back high up the pitch. The formation also allows for numerical superiority in the attacking third when Waller joins the front three. This setup provides a strong central block that makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
This 3-4-3 formation is built for a high press and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games against opponents who play a slow build up from the back.
