Focusing on defensive stability and quick transitions, Dinamo employs a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to stay compact and strike with pace once the ball is won. The team looks to frustrate the opponent before finding ways to play through the lines.

Livaković provides the foundation from goal. The defensive unit operates with a back five, utilizing Ademi as the central anchor to protect the area. Sedloski and Bišćan play as wide centre-backs to cover the channels and win headers. Modrić and S. Marić act as attacking wing backs, tasked to push high and provide width. This back five can shift to form a narrow defensive block to deny space between the lines and force the opponent wide.

In the middle, Mandžukić and Petković form a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. These two must work to win the second ball and protect the defensive line. Mandžukić and Petković are responsible for recycling possession and moving the ball toward the forwards. They must be ready to drop deep to help the defenders or press in a mid-block to win the ball back.

The attacking front line uses three players to stretch the defence. Viduka leads the line as a target man to hold up the ball and link play. I. Cvitanović and Eduardo operate on the flanks, with the instruction to cut inside or stay wide to pull defenders out of position. This creates space for Modrić and S. Marić to overlap the wingers and deliver crosses into the box. The goal is to hit in behind on the transition and find the feet of the striker.

One major strength is the ability to create wide overloads when the wing backs join the attack to support the wingers. Another advantage is the compactness when defending, as the five defenders and two midfielders can squeeze the space effectively. This makes it hard for opponents to find gaps in the central area or move through the thirds.

This Dinamo formation is designed for teams that want to sit deep and counter at pace. It is best suited for games against heavy possession sides that leave space behind their defenders.
