Monza Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Ciardi 06 · Crasta 05 · Domanico 05 · Azarovs 06 · Lupinetti 05 · Nenè 06 · Berretta 06 · Longhi 05 · Zanaboni 05 · Ballabio 08 · De Bonis 06Monza plays with a focus on central control and vertical movement using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the second ball and transition quickly through the middle of the pitch. The team seeks to control the game by using a heavy midfield presence to dictate play.
Ciardi stands between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back three features Domanico in the center, flanked by Azarovs on the left and Crasta on the right. Domanico acts as the central anchor to hold the line, while Azarovs and Crasta provide cover to the wide areas. They must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside or drop deep to cover space behind the high line. This defensive unit works together to squeeze the space between the lines and deny the turn to opposing attackers.
The midfield unit uses five players to control the center and the flanks. Nenè and De Bonis operate in the wide areas to provide width and help the back three during defensive transitions. In the central zone, Lupinetti, Ballabio, and Berretta form a three man midfield with a carrier. Lupinetti and Ballabio act as the drivers who carry the ball forward and connect the defense to the strike force. Berretta provides stability by sitting deeper to shield the defense and recycle possession. This group works to intercept play and win the ball in the middle third.
In the final third, Monza relies on two forwards in a partnership of Zanaboni and Longhi. These two forwards work to find space between the lines and combine in tight spaces to break the defensive line. Zanaboni and Longhi often press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The attack is built by using the width provided by Nenè and De Bonis to stretch the defense. This allows the strikers to make runs in behind or receive the ball to play a one two with the advancing midfielders.
A key tactical advantage is the numerical superiority in the middle of the field which helps Monza dominate possession. The formation also offers the ability to create wide overloads when Nenè and De Bonis push forward to support the attacking movement. By having three central midfielders, the team can better pick up runners and cover the space left by attacking players. This creates a very compact formation when defending in a mid block.
This 3-5-2 formation is ideal for controlling the center of the pitch and attacking with both width and central density. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a narrow midfield or struggle with high pressing.
