Dinamo Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Georg (Koch) · Goran (Jurić) · Dario (Šimić) · Etto · Leandro (Cufre) · Luka (Modrić) · Davor (Šuker) · Eduardo (Da Silva) · Kujtim (Shala) · Zvonimir (Boban) · Silvio (Marić)Dinamo focuses on a high press and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to sit in a mid-block before hitting teams in behind when they win the ball. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition and create space for runners in the middle.
Georg guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit functions as a back five, featuring Luka and Dario as central defenders who hold the line and win headers. Goran operates as the left centre back to provide cover while the wing backs, Leandro and Etto, push high up the pitch to provide width. These wing backs are expected to track back to form a solid defensive block when out of possession. Luka and Dario work to clear the lines and intercept passes to prevent breakthroughs.
The midfield consists of a double pivot with Zvonimir and Silvio. These two players must control the center of the pitch and shield the back five. Silvio works to recycle possession and keep the ball moving, while Zvonimir looks to carry the ball forward to connect the defensive unit with the attack. They need to win the second ball and stop the opposition from playing through the lines. By staying compact, the duo helps Dinamo maintain a strong central presence.
In the attacking phase, the team utilizes three attackers across the front. Eduardo and Kujtim act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goalscoring chances, while Davor plays as a lone striker to lead the line. Davor works to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. The wingers look to isolate defenders one on one or deliver early crosses into the box. This front three is designed to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Leandro and Etto overlap the wingers. Dinamo also benefits from a high degree of compactness when defending in a mid-block, making it hard for opponents to find space between the lines. The speed of transition allows the team to move from a defensive position to an attacking one very quickly.
This 5-2-3 formation provides a solid foundation for a team that wants to be difficult to break down while remaining dangerous on the counter. It is best suited for matches against teams that hold high lines and leave space behind their defense.
