Guaita/ ivan · Javi/manq · Carl/Aidoo/jaja · Marcos/carlos · Ming/carre · Hugo/cerv/ris · Bertran/sote · Illaix/Dami · Aspas/alfon · Duran/bor/dou · WilliotCelta looks to play with a high press and quick transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup relies on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. The team aims to use the width of the pitch to stretch the defence while keeping the central area compact.
Ivan Guaita guards the goal as the starting goalkeeper. In front of him, the defence operates in a back five. Carl Aidoo sits in the middle as the central defender to win the header and cover the space behind. Javi Manq plays as the right centre back to defend the channel, while Marcos Carlos acts as the left centre back. Ming Carre works as the right wing back to provide width and track back when needed. Hugo Cerv plays as the left wing back to push forward and support the attack.
The midfield is a two man unit designed to control the center of the pitch. Illaix Dami acts as the right central midfielder to drive forward with the ball and link the lines. Bertran Sote operates as the left central midfielder to help protect the defence and recycle possession. These two must work hard to squeeze the space between the lines and win the second ball. They provide the connection between the back five and the attacking trio.
The attack uses three players across the front to pressure the opposition. Aspas, the captain, plays on the right wing to cut inside and create chances with his passing range. Williot operates on the left wing to stretch the pitch. Duran leads the line as the lone striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of the teammates. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win possession in advanced areas.
Celta gains a clear advantage through wide overloads when Ming Carre and Hugo Cerv push high. The formation also offers great compactness when defending in a mid block. This makes it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. The team can also hit in behind on the transition by using the speed of the wingers.
This formation is built for a team that wants to press aggressively and strike on the break. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and leave space behind their defence.
