Aldo and Branco are expected to track back to help the central defenders but must also push high to support the attack.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide stability. Romerito and Delei work together to shield the defence and win the second ball. Romerito looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Delei is tasked to carry the ball forward and drive into the half spaces. This pair works to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

In the final third, Fluminense uses three attackers to exploit spaces behind the opposition defence. Assis leads the line as a lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and link up with his teammates. Tato plays on the left as an inverted winger who wants to cut inside, while Washington occupies the right wing to provide width and deliver crosses. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

A major tactical advantage for Fluminense is the ability to create wide overloads when Aldo and Branco push up the pitch. This creates space for the wingers to exploit in one on one situations. The team also maintains high compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to find gaps between the lines.
