Boca aims to dominate the pitch through extreme aggression and a high press in a 2-5-3. This lineup seeks to pin the opposition back and win the ball back high up the pitch. The team plays a very vertical style of football that relies on quick transitions and constant pressure on the opponent. By crowding the middle and the final third, Boca Juniors intend to overwhelm the defensive lines of their rivals.

MARCHESIN stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defense relies on a narrow pair of central defenders, BATTAGLIA and ROJO, who must operate with a high line to squeeze the space. BATTAGLIA acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks, while ROJO provides cover and handles one on one situations. Since there are no full backs, these two must be dominant in the air and quick to step up to intercept passes.

A heavy midfield presence controls the center of the pitch. A. HERRERA sits in front of the defense to shield the two center backs and recycle possession. ADVINCULA and SARACCHI work as the engine in the middle, carrying the ball forward to break the line. ALARCON and VELASCO occupy the half spaces as advanced midfielders to press aggressively and find the feet of the strikers. This five man unit links the defense to the attack by constantly moving to create passing lanes.

The attacking trio focuses on constant movement to create chaos. CAVANI acts as a target man to hold up the ball and win headers. ZENON and PALACIOS play wide to stretch the defense, often looking to cut inside and play through the lines. They work to isolate wide players and make runs in behind the last defender. The goal is to use the width provided by the wingers to deliver crosses or cutbacks to CAVANI in the box.

The primary advantage of this formation is the massive numerical superiority in the midfield. This allows Boca to win the second ball and control the tempo of the game. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves with ALARCON, VELASCO, and the front three. This constant pressure forces long balls that the central defenders can easily clear. This formation also allows for rapid transitions once the ball is won back in the middle.
