Ajax prioritizes high pressing and aggressive ball winning through a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the space high up the pitch and win the ball back quickly to catch the opponent out of position. The goal is to maintain control through high intensity and vertical movement once the ball is regained.

R. Pasveer plays behind a flat back four to organize the defensive line. J. Sutalo acts as a ball playing centre back to help play out from the back, while Y. Baas provides cover to protect the area behind. The wide defenders, J. Hato at left back and D. Rensch at right back, are tasked to push high to support the attack. They must be ready to track back quickly if the team loses possession to prevent counters.

The midfield functions with a single pivot and two advanced midfielders. J. Henderson sits in front of the defence to shield the back four and recycle possession. He is joined by K. Taylor and K. Fitz-Jim, who act as inverted eights to connect the defensive and attacking lines. K. Taylor and K. Fitz-Jim are responsible to press aggressively in a mid-block and carry the ball forward to break the line.

Ajax employs three attackers to stretch the opposition. C. Akpom operates as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender and hold up the ball for others. M. Godts stays wide on the left to provide width, while B. Traore' plays as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside and create chances. These attackers work to press the opposition back line to force a long ball and regain control.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, especially with J. Henderson and the central midfielders. The team can also create wide overloads when J. Hato and M. Godts combine to overload the flank. This creates space in the middle for K. Taylor or K. Fitz-Jim to arrive late into the box.

This 4-3-3 formation relies on high energy to dominate games through pressing. It is best suited for facing teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
