Wolves look to play a direct and vertical brand of football within a 3-4-3 formation. The lineup focuses on quick transitions and using wide areas to stretch the opposition. By utilizing a back three, the team seeks to remain compact while having enough bodies to support the attack when they win the ball back.

Jose Sa acts as the last line of defense, playing out from the back to start attacks. In front of him, Bueno holds the central position in a back three, acting as the main man to clear the lines and organize the unit. Agbadou sits as the left centre-back to cover the space, while Doherty operates as the right centre-back. Doherty often pushes up to support the flank, functioning as an attacking wing back. This defensive unit works together to maintain a narrow block when they do not have the ball.

The midfield works as a four man unit to control the central areas and provide width. André and João Gomes form a double pivot in the center, with André acting to shield the defense and win the second ball. João Gomes uses his high pressing intensity to disrupt the opposition and win it back high up the pitch. On the flanks, Semedo and Aït Nouri provide the necessary width. Semedo covers the right side to overlap and cross, while Aït Nouri pushes forward from the left to support the wingers. This midfield pairing connects the defensive line to the front three.

Wolves use three attackers to pin the opposition back. Strand Larsen acts as a target man in the center, looking to hold up the ball and win headers. Cunha plays as an inverted winger on the left, often cutting inside to find space in the half spaces or create chances. Guedes operates on the right wing, looking to isolate defenders in one on one situations or deliver crosses. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball and regain possession quickly in advanced areas.

This formation offers Wolves several tactical advantages. They create wide overloads when the wing backs join the attack, often leaving defenders outnumbered. The double pivot of André and João Gomes provides compactness in the middle to prevent play through the lines. Additionally, the team can transition very quickly, moving the ball from the defense to the front three in just a few passes to hit in behind on the transition.

The 3-4-3 formation allows Wolves to be a threat in both possession and transition. This lineup is best suited for games where the team needs to exploit space behind a high defensive line or compete against teams that dominate the middle.
