Starting Lineup

The midfield operates as a double pivot to connect the defense to the attack. BARREIRA and COMPANY work together to control the center of the pitch. BARREIRA works to shield the defense and recycle possession when under pressure. COMPANY looks to carry the ball forward and drive into space to break the lines. They must win the second ball and pick up runners to prevent counter attacks while staying compact.

The attacking front line features four players to stretch the defense wide and deep. STOFFELS plays as a left winger to hug the touchline, while LAUWERS acts as a right winger to provide width and deliver crosses. CARROLL and SESKO function as a partnership of two central forwards. CARROLL and SESKO work to hold up the ball and make runs in behind to exploit space. They press the opposition back line to force long balls and win possession high up the pitch.

A major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads through the wingers. Having STOFFELS and LAUWERS spread wide allows Juventus to stretch the defense and isolate wide players in one on one situations. The pairing of CARROLL and SESKO provides a strong central presence to win the second ball. This formation also allows for a rapid speed of transition to hit the opponent in behind.

This 4-2-4 formation is designed for high pressing and direct attacking. It is most effective when facing an opponent that sits deep in a low block.
