Torino aims to win the ball high up the pitch and hit teams in behind on the transition through a 2-5-3. This formation is built to play with heavy verticality and aggressive pressing to disrupt the opponent before they can build out from the back. By using such an advanced lineup, the team looks to compress the pitch and create immediate danger in the final third.

Gillet operates between the posts as the goalkeeper. The defensive unit relies on a narrow two man back line consisting of Kana-Byik and the captain Glik. Glik is dominant in the air and provides a presence to defend set pieces. These two central defenders must play a high line to squeeze the space and protect the area behind them. Because there are only two defenders, they must be ready to step up to intercept long balls and manage the space against runners.

The midfield functions as a massive five man block to control the center of the pitch. Acquah sits in the middle to shield the defense and recycle possession. On either side, Maksimovic and N'Koulou work to drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win the ball back. Obi and Sissoko operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders, where they can carry the ball forward and connect the defensive unit to the front line. This midfield group aims to win the second ball and squeeze the space in the middle.

The attack uses three players across the front to stretch the defense. Benteke acts as a target man to hold up the ball and provide a focal point for long balls. He is supported by Sanchez Miño and Payet, who act as wide attackers. Payet can cut inside to create chances, while Sanchez Miño looks to find space for runs in behind. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball, allowing the midfield to win possession and start a fresh attack.

This setup offers clear tactical advantages for Torino. The team creates numerical superiority in the midfield to dominate possession and control the tempo. By using three attackers and two wide midfielders, the formation can create wide overloads to pull defenders out of position. The ability to press in high waves makes it difficult for opponents to play short from the back.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for a high intensity game where the goal is to dominate the middle and strike quickly. It is best suited for games against opponents that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
