PAOK plays a high tempo brand of football built on direct verticality and heavy pressure, utilizing a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on overwhelming the opponent through a powerful front four and a dedicated double pivot to maintain control. By pushing many players forward, the team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and transition into attack with massive speed.

The defensive unit starts with ΤΟΧΟΥΡΟΓΛΟΥ in goal to command the area. A flat back four provides the foundation, with SZNAUCNER acting as a full back to provide width on the right side. On the left, LINO pushes forward to support the attack, while ΜΑΛΕΖΑΣ and Pablo CONTRERAS occupy the central roles as the two centre backs. ΜΑΛΕΖΑΣ and Pablo CONTRERAS must hold the line and remain disciplined to prevent runs in behind, as the team often plays with a high line.

In the middle of the park, PAOK operates with a double pivot to provide stability. ΖΑΓΟΡΑΚΗΣ and PABLO GARCIA work to shield the defence and protect the back four from direct attacks. ΖΑΓΟΡΑΚΗΣ acts as the engine to win the second ball, while PABLO GARCIA looks to recycle possession and find the attackers. This two man midfield must be very disciplined to cover the large spaces left behind when the full backs push high, ensuring they can intercept passes before the opposition can exploit the gaps.

The attacking front line is extremely aggressive, using four players to stretch the opposition defence. SERGIO CONCEICAO and VIEIRINHA operate as wide attackers, with SERGIO CONCEICAO often looking to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. PEREZ and ΣΑΛΠΙΓΓΙΔΗΣ operate as a strike partnership in the center, acting as two central forwards who press the opposition back line constantly. This heavy presence in the final third is designed to create runs in behind and force errors from defenders through constant movement and physical presence.

This formation offers significant advantages in terms of offensive pressure and width. The use of four attackers allows PAOK to create wide overloads and isolate defenders in one on one situations. Additionally, the double pivot provides a layer of protection that allows the team to transition quickly from a mid block into a lethal counter at pace.

The 4-2-4 lineup is a high risk, high reward system centered on aggressive attacking intent. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or catch an opponent on the break through sheer numbers in the final third.
