The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a carrier and a holding presence. Pulgar sits deep to shield the defence and recycle possession. De La Cruz works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by driving forward with the ball. Wesley operates on the right side of this trio to help balance the transition from defence to attack. This group is responsible for squeezing the space in the center to prevent opponents from playing through the lines.

Flamengo uses a very aggressive front line featuring four attackers. Pedro operates as a central striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Arrascaeta plays as a second striker in the hole to link play between the lines. On the flanks, Gérson plays on the right and Bruno Henrique plays on the left, with both players ready to cut inside to create chaos. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win it back quickly.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads and central congestion. By having four players in the final third, Flamengo can overwhelm a standard four man defence.
