LAFC focuses on a high press and vertical movement using a 4-3-3 formation. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move it through the thirds to catch the opponent off guard. This lineup is built to play a direct game that uses quick combinations to break the line and create chances in the final third.

Hugo Lloris acts as the goalkeeper and uses his shot stopping to protect the net. The defensive unit operates with a back four where Sergi Palencia and Ryan Hollingshead act as attacking full backs to spread wide. In the center, Aaron Long and Nkosi Tfari form the defensive line. Long is able to cover space and track back, while Tfari looks to step up into midfield to disrupt the opposition. They work to hold the line and defend zonally to keep the team compact.

In the middle, Igor Jesus operates as the single pivot to shield the defence. He drops between the centre backs to receive the ball and help play out from the back. Mark Delgado and Odin Thiago Holm act as the two central midfielders to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Delgado works to recycle possession and switch play to find space, while Holm presses aggressively to win it back high up the pitch. This midfield trio works to compress the midfield and win the second ball.

The attacking unit uses three players to stretch the defence. Denis Bouanga and Cristian Olivera act as inverted wingers who cut inside to threaten the goal. Bouanga uses his dribbling to beat his man and drive toward the box. Olivier Giroud plays as a target man in the centre of the attack. Giroud uses his aerial strength to win the header and is able to hold up the ball to lay it off to his teammates. The front three press from the front to force a long ball and allow the team to break quickly.

A major strength of LAFC is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs overlap the wingers. This forces the opposition to shift and creates space in the half spaces. The team also possesses great speed of transition, allowing them to hit in behind on the transition and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This 4-3-3 formation is defined by its high intensity and ability to play through the lines. It is best suited for games against opponents who play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
