River Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Ledesma · Martínez Quarta · Pezzella · Montiel · Acuña · Bustos · Galoppo · Kranevitter · Driussi · Colidio · MezaRiver seeks to overwhelm opponents with a relentless high press and massive offensive presence. This intent is reflected in their 3-3-4 formation. The lineup is built to play a vertical style of football where the main goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and attack the opposition immediately.
Ledesma guards the goal as the primary shot stopper. The defensive unit works as a narrow defensive block with a back three of Martínez Quarta, Pezzella, and Montiel. Pezzella acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back and distribute the ball. Martínez Quarta and Montiel focus on maintaining a high line to squeeze the space, with Montiel ready to cover the wide areas if the opposition breaks quickly or tries to exploit the flanks.
In the center of the pitch, the midfield relies on a three-man midfield with Kranevitter acting as the single pivot. Kranevitter sits deep to deny the pivot and protect the three defenders. Bustos and Acuña play as the runners who carry the ball forward to connect the defensive and attacking lines. They work to compress the midfield and ensure there is always a passing option to win it back high up the pitch and progress through the thirds.
The front line is extremely heavy, using four attackers to pin the last defender. Galoppo and Meza play as wide wingers who spread wide to stretch the defence and provide width. Driussi and Colidio operate as a partnership of two forwards in the center. They look to make runs in behind the opposition back line or drop into pockets to receive on the half-turn and play a one-two to split the defence with a through ball.
A primary strength of this lineup is the ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the final third. By committing so many players forward, River can press in pairs to force a long ball from the opposition. This high volume of players also allows for quick combinations in tight spaces to break the lines and reach the box.
This 3-3-4 formation is a heavy attacking system intended to dominate territory through high intensity. It is most effective when playing against a team that sits deep and lacks the speed to counter at pace.
