PSG Football Formation
Starting Lineup
COUPET · YEPES · CANA · CEARÁ · MAKELELE · GIULY · SAHKO · KEZMAN · CEBOLA · JALLET · NENÊPSG aims to play a direct and high tempo game through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup prioritizes attacking numbers and quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position. The goal is to stretch the play and use the extra forwards to overwhelm the defensive line of the opponent.
COUPET sits between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back four consists of JALLET at right back and CEARÁ at left back, who provide width and support the attackers. SAHKO and YEPES operate as the two central defenders, where YEPES uses his aerial strength and SAHKO provides cover to defend zonally. This unit looks to hold a high line to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch.
A double pivot controls the central area of the pitch for PSG. MAKELELE acts as the primary shield for the defence, known for his incredible ability to intercept passes and win the ball. CANA works alongside him to connect the defensive unit with the front four. Together, they try to win the second ball and quickly move the ball forward to the attacking players.
The attacking line uses two forwards in a partnership with two wide players. NENÊ and KEZMAN act as the central strikers, where NENÊ looks to find the feet of the striker and KEZMAN searches for runs in behind. GIULY plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside, while CEBOLA stays wide on the right to stretch the defence. This front four works to press the opposition back line and create chances through quick combinations.
This formation offers significant speed of transition when the ball is won in the middle third. PSG can create wide overloads by having the wingers and full backs work together to get to the byline. The numerical superiority in the final third makes it difficult for the opposition to mark every runner.
The 4-2-4 formation is a heavy attacking lineup built for high intensity. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a deep defensive block or play against an opponent that struggles to handle direct attacks.
