Persis Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Sultan (GK) · Fadhil (CB) · Zaenal (CV) · Russeno (CB) · Satri (DM) · Sinung (DM) · Ridwan (CM) · Tatang (CM) · Sakti (CF) · Zaky (LW) · Dhani (RW)Persis plays a game built on verticality and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is designed to absorb pressure and hit the opposition with speed once the ball is recovered. The goal is to use wide areas to stretch the play while keeping a heavy presence behind the ball to prevent being caught out during transitions.
Sultan guards the goal as the last line of defense. In front of him, the team employs a back five that can shift into a wide defensive block. Zaenal and Sinung act as the central pillars of this unit, with Zaenal providing strength in the air and Sinung covering the space. Satri sits on the left side of the central trio to secure that zone. Russeno operates as a right wing back, pushing high to provide width, while Fadhil functions as the left wing back to balance the flanks. This defensive unit works to keep the lines tight and close the gaps between the defenders.
The midfield consists of a two-man pairing with Tatang and Ridwan. This double pivot is tasked with sitting deep to protect the back five and win the second ball. Tatang drives forward with the ball to help progress play, while Ridwan focuses on intercepting passes and shielding the central area. They act as the vital link that allows the team to move from a defensive posture into an attacking one. Their main job is to recover possession and immediately look to find the front three.
In the attacking phase, Persis uses three attackers to pin the opposition back line. Sakti leads the line as a lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and lay it off to his teammates. Zaky operates on the left as an inverted winger who cuts inside to create goalscoring chances, while Dhani stays wide on the right to stretch the defense. The wing backs, Russeno and Fadhil, provide constant overlaps to create numerical superiority in the wide channels. This allows the team to attack in combinations and exploit space behind the opposition full backs.
The main tactical strengths of this Persis formation include the ability to create wide overloads from the overlapping wing backs. By having Russeno and Fadhil push high, the team can overwhelm the flanks. Another advantage is the compactness when defending in a low block, making it very difficult for opponents to find space between the lines. The speed of transition is also a key factor, as the team can move from a deep defensive position to an attacking shape in seconds.
This 5-2-3 formation relies on disciplined defensive work and quick vertical movement. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession, allowing Persis to exploit the space left behind as the opponent pushes forward.
