Persebaya aims to dominate through high pressing and rapid verticality in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use the width of the field to stretch the opposition. He acts as the primary link between the back line and the attackers, often dropping between the centre backs to receive the ball. Ahead of him, Fransisco Rivera and Rashid function as inverted eights. Rashid drives forward with the ball to carry it into the half spaces, while Fransisco Rivera looks to connect the lines and arrive late into the box. This three man midfield works to control the center and press in a mid-block when the ball is lost.

Persebaya utilizes three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Flavio acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the midfielders. On the wings, Tumbas and Alfan act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to spread the defence. Tumbas looks to cut inside to create shooting opportunities, while Alfan tries to get to the byline to deliver a cross. This attacking lineup creates combinations in transition, often looking to hit in behind on the transition with quick runs from the forwards.

A major advantage for Persebaya is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to trigger a press. The midfield trio, led by Hidayat, provides numerical superiority in the center to win the second ball. Furthermore, the overlapping runs from Ardi and Catur create wide overloads that force the opposition to shift constantly.
