Miller Bolanos operates alongside them to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often dropping deep to receive and recycle possession. Tim Cahill plays as an attacking ten, looking to arrive late into the box to add another goal threat.

The attacking line is incredibly heavy with four players positioned to punish the opposition. Tevez and Drogba function as two strikers in a partnership, where Drogba uses his aerial strength to win the header and Tevez looks to link up play between the lines. On the flanks, Martins plays as a wide winger who stretches the defence, while Anelka/Demba Ba occupies the right side to cut inside and create chances. This group is designed to attack in combinations and hit in behind on the transition.

SH Shenhua gains a massive advantage through the sheer volume of attackers. This 2-4-4 creates wide overloads when the midfielders push up, making it hard for opponents to mark everyone.
