Starting Lineup

Samu · Pepê · Mora · Ivan Jaime · Moura · Nico · Eustáquio · Otávio · Djaló · Nehuen · Diogo

FC Porto aims to play a high press game with a vertical style of play, utilizing a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use quick transitions to catch opponents off guard. The team looks to stretch the defence by using wide players to create space for the central attackers.

Diogo starts between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back three consists of Nehuen as the right center back, Djaló in the middle, and Otávio on the left. Djaló acts as the central figure to win headers and cover the space behind his partners. Nehuen and Otávio provide stability and can step up to engage attackers before they turn. This defensive unit works to maintain a high line to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch.

The midfield operates as a four man unit to control the central areas and provide width. Nico and Eustáquio act as the central duo, with Nico working to press aggressively to win the ball high and Eustáquio looking to connect the defence and attack. Pepê and Moura occupy the wide roles, acting as wing backs who provide width and cover the flanks. Pepê and Moura must track back to help the back three when the opposition attacks, while also being ready to carry the ball forward during transitions.

Up front, the attack features three players looking to pin the last defender. Samu plays as the lone striker and acts as a physical presence to hold up the ball and win the second ball. Ivan Jaime and Mora operate as wide attackers, with Ivan Jaime looking to cut inside to create goalscoring chances and Mora pulling wide to deliver crosses. This front line presses from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

FC Porto gains a massive advantage through wide overloads when Pepê and Moura push high to overlap the wingers. The formation also offers the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. This setup creates significant numerical superiority in the middle thirds when the wide players tuck in.

This 3-4-3 formation is designed for a high intensity game based on physical presence and rapid movement. It is best suited for facing teams that struggle to play through a heavy press and lack speed in their defensive transitions.
