Starting Lineup

Pisa aims to play a direct and aggressive brand of football using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition. The team looks to hit teams in transition by using quick vertical passes to move from defense to attack.

Semper acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back three consists of Caracciolo, Canestrelli, and Rus. Caracciolo leads the line and provides aerial strength, while Canestrelli and Rus provide cover and help play out from the back. This defensive unit can shift into a mid-block or push a high line to squeeze the space. The wide center backs are expected to cover the wide areas when the wing backs push forward.

The midfield functions with a central pairing of Højholt and Abildgaard. These two act as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Højholt drives forward with the ball to link the lines, while Abildgaard stays deeper to protect the center. On the flanks, Touré and Angori act as wing backs to provide width. They are tasked to overlap the wingers and deliver crosses into the box while also tracking back to support the back three.

Pisa utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender. Lind operates as a pressing centre-forward to lead the line and hold up the ball. Moreo and Meister play as wide attackers, with Moreo cutting inside from the left and Meister looking to get to the byline on the right. The team builds play through the half spaces, looking for runs in behind the defense. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

One major strength for Pisa is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Angori and Touré. This allows the wingers to find more space in central areas. Another advantage is the compactness when defending in a mid-block, making it difficult for opponents to play through the lines. The team can also use the speed of transition to catch teams out of position.
