Leganés Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Dmitrovic · Sergio G · Nastasic · Rosier · Alti · Juan Cruz · Cisse · Neyou · Oscar · Munir · RabaLeganés aims to control the center of the pitch and win the second ball to stay on top of games. This identity is built around a 3-5-2 formation. The team looks to play short from the back to move the ball through the thirds while maintaining a heavy presence in the middle of the park. This lineup works to squeeze the space and keep the opposition from finding easy passes through the center.
Dmitrovic acts as the last line of defense behind a back three. Rosier, Sergio G, and Nastasic form a narrow defensive block to protect the central zone. Nastasic often plays as a ball playing defender who can step up to intercept play, while Rosier and Sergio G work to cover the space behind him and win the header during set pieces. This unit seeks to hold the line and deny the turn to any oncoming attackers by defending zonally.
The midfield is built around a double pivot consisting of Alti and Juan Cruz. They sit deep to shield the defence and deny the pivot of the opposition. Ahead of them, Neyou and Cisse operate in the half-spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. They press in a mid-block to win the ball back high up the pitch. Oscar plays as an attacking ten, sitting in the hole to receive on the half-turn and look to arrive late into the box to score.
Up front, Munir and Raba work as a partnership in the final third. They combine in tight spaces and look to play one-two combinations to break the line. Munir can hold up the ball to allow Raba to make runs in behind or exploit the space if the defenders step up. The two forwards aim to press from the front to force a long ball and trigger a press when the opponent tries to play out from the back.
One major advantage for Leganés is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to compress the midfield and control the tempo. They can also use the presence of the five midfielders to win the second ball easily. This formation provides great compactness when defending and allows the team to transition and counter at pace when the ball is won.
This 3-5-2 formation is built to squeeze the space in central areas and dominate the middle third. It is most effective against opponents who try to play through the center rather than using wide players.
