Mallorca Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Greif · Raíllo · Valjent · Copete · Mojica · Morey · Samu Costa · Darder · Dani Rodríguez · Muriqi · LarinMallorca looks to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup focuses on being defensively solid while looking to hit opponents on the break. The team relies on quick transitions to move the ball from the defensive third into the attacking third, using the physical presence of the forwards to bypass the midfield.
Greif operates between the posts to command the area. In front of him, a back three provides a narrow defensive block. Valjent acts as the right centre-back, while Copete plays as the left centre-back. Raíllo sits in the middle to organize the unit and win the second ball. These defenders are tasked to defend zonally and cover for each other when the team pushes up. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space and force a long ball from the opposition.
The midfield functions with a three-man unit supported by two more advanced players. Samu Costa sits deep to shield the defence and recycle possession. Morey and Mojica operate as wide midfielders who are expected to provide width and track back when the team loses the ball. Darder and Dani Rodríguez occupy the half-spaces as attacking midfielders to connect the lines. Darder works to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines, while Dani Rodríguez looks to create chances by finding pockets of space between the opposition lines.
Mallorca utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Muriqi acts as a target man, using his aerial strength to hold up the ball and flick on long passes. Larin plays alongside him to make runs in behind and hunt for second balls. The attack is built through quick direct passes to the strikers or by using the width provided by Morey and Mojica. These wide players look to deliver early crosses into the box to utilize the height of Muriqi and Copete.
One major advantage for Mallorca is the ability to pack the central areas, making them very hard to break down through the middle. The team can also create wide overloads when Morey and Mojica push forward to join the attack. This formation allows for a very compact shape when defending a lead, making it difficult for opponents to find passing lanes.
This 3-5-2 formation provides Mallorca with a balanced way to defend deep and strike quickly. It is a setup best suited for games against possession based teams where the squad can sit in a mid-block and exploit space on the transition.
