Starting Lineup

Feyenoord aims to control the tempo of the game through a high press and heavy attacking numbers, utilizing a 2-5-3 formation. This small defensive unit must stay compact and step up together to maintain a high line, forcing the opposition to play long balls.

The midfield is the engine of Feyenoord, operating as a dense five man block that controls every zone. Osman and Hartman act as a double pivot to shield the two center backs, with Osman providing defensive cover and Hartman looking to recycle possession. Q. Timber and Hwang occupy the half spaces to drive forward with the ball and link the defensive and attacking lines. Stengs operates as the attacking ten, finding pockets of space to create chances and deliver the final pass to the forwards.

The attacking front three provides constant pressure on the opposition back line. Paixão stays wide on the left to stretch the defense, while Moussa operates on the right to provide width and deliver crosses. Giménez leads the line as a pressing centre forward, using his movement to pull defenders out of position and find space in the box. This front line works in combinations, using quick passes to split the defense and create one on one situations for the wingers.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, most notably numerical superiority in the midfield. By having five players in the central zone, Feyenoord can easily overload the middle and win the second ball.
