River aims to sit deep and strike on the break using a 5-4-1. This formation is built to be defensively solid and rely on quick transitions to catch opponents off guard. By packing the middle and the back, the players look to win the second ball and move the play forward through the central areas once possession is regained.

BAROVERO stands between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit works in a back five with KRANE acting as the central man to anchor the line. FUNES MORI and MALDANA occupy the spaces on either side of him to cover wide areas and win the header during set pieces. VANGIONI and MERCADO act as attacking wing backs, providing width by pushing high up the pitch to support the attack while remaining ready to track back and defend the flanks.

In the middle of the pitch, the team employs a diamond with a sitting midfielder to block passing lanes. SANCHEZ sits in front of the defense to shield the back line and intercept passes. PONZIO and ALARIO operate in the central roles to recycle possession and link the defense to the attack. MORA plays as the advanced tip behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines to find the forward.

The attack relies on a lone striker, SAVIOLA, who must hold up the ball and work with the midfielders. While SAVIOLA leads the line, the team uses the width provided by VANGIONI and MERCADO to stretch the defense. The goal is to hit in behind on the transition, using the runs of the wing backs to deliver crosses or create chances in the box. The attacking play often comes in sudden bursts, looking to use the link up play between the lines and the movement of MORA to create chances.

One major advantage for River is the compactness when defending in a low block, making it hard for the opposition to find space. The team can also create wide overloads when MERCADO and VANGIONI push high, forcing the opponent to defend large amounts of territory. This ability to switch from a deep defensive block to a rapid counter at pace makes them very difficult to play against.
