Starting Lineup

FC Porto aims to dominate through a high press and rapid transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and quickly stretch the defence with wide attackers. By playing with three central defenders and two wide midfielders, the team seeks to control the central areas while keeping options open on the flanks.

Diogo operates between the posts to command his area. The back line consists of a three man unit with Djaló acting as the central anchor. Nehuen plays as the right centre back and Zé Pedro occupies the left centre back position. Nehuen and Zé Pedro provide width to the defensive line, often stepping up to squeeze the space when the team presses. Djaló focuses on winning the header and covering the space behind the midfield. The defensive unit works to keep a compact shape to prevent through balls.

In the middle of the pitch, the team uses a three man midfield to connect the lines. Varela sits in the single pivot role to shield the defence and recycle possession. Zaidú and Pepê act as the wide midfielders who provide much of the engine in this formation. Pepê drives forward with the ball to link the play, while Zaidú helps to cover the wide areas. Eustáquio plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box.

The attacking front line uses three attackers to pin the opposition back line. Samu acts as the lone striker and uses his physical presence to hold up the ball. On the flanks, William and Mora operate as wide wingers who hug the touchline to provide maximum width. William looks to cut inside to create goal scoring chances, while Mora aims to get to the byline and whip it in. This front three works to press the opposition defenders and create runs in behind.

FC Porto gains a significant advantage through wide overloads when Zaidú or Pepê overlap the wingers. The presence of Eustáquio in the hole creates numerical superiority in the central attacking zone. This formation also allows for a quick speed of transition, moving the ball from Diogo through the midfield to Samu and the wingers in seconds.
