Mallorca plays a very compact style of football using a 4-5-1 formation. The goal is to be defensively solid and use the transition to catch teams off guard. This lineup focuses on clogging the central areas to force the opposition to the wings and then hit them quickly.

Greif guards the net as the goalkeeper. The back four functions as a zonal line to protect the box. Maffeo and Mojica act as attacking wing backs to provide width during the buildup. In the center, Valjent and Raíllo form the heart of the defense. Raíllo is dominant in the air and focuses on marking the opposition striker, while Valjent works to cover the space behind him. The defensive unit stays compact to prevent through balls and force the opposition to play wide.

The midfield is a five man unit designed to control the center. To shield the defense, SamuCosta and Omar act as a double pivot. He is able to carry the ball forward to bridge the lines. Darder plays as a left sided midfielder who can switch play and find teammates with his passing range. RobertNavarro and DaniRguez occupy the central spaces to win the second ball and compress the midfield. This group connects the defense to the lone attacker.

Muriqi leads the line as a lone striker and functions as a target man. He uses his aerial strength to win the header and hold up the ball to allow teammates to move up the pitch. The wide players look to get to the byline and whip it in or play cutbacks. The team attacks in combinations, looking to hit in behind on the transition. This movement helps the striker pin the last defender to create space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

Mallorca possesses a strong ability to press in a mid-block to win the ball high up the pitch. The formation provides compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. Another advantage is the speed of transition when SamuCosta or Darder win possession. They can quickly switch play to the wide areas to exploit space.

This 4-5-1 formation is a disciplined way to play that prioritizes defensive stability. It is best suited for games against teams that want to keep the ball and face a deep block.
