FC Bayern aims to control the game through high intensity and immediate ball recovery, operating from an aggressive 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the pitch by squeezing the space and forcing the opposition into mistakes. Manuel Neuer operates as the sweeper behind a high line, acting as the first point of distribution. The back line consists of a staggered two man pairing with Kim and Upamecano. Kim uses his aerial strength and strength in duels to defend the central area, while Upamecano acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back. Because the defensive unit sits so high, these two must be ready to cover large amounts of ground and sprint to stop runners in behind.

The midfield is a dense five man block designed to congest the center and win the second ball. Kimmich sits as a deep lying playmaker, looking to recycle possession and switch play to the flanks. Beside him, Davies operates as a wide player who can drive forward with the ball to provide width. Laimer and Goretzka occupy the central channels to press aggressively and protect the center of the pitch. Musiala plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to receive on the half turn and play through the lines to find the forwards.

In the attacking third, FC Bayern uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Kane acts as the central target man, holding up the ball to allow others to join the move. Gnabry and Sané act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. This movement creates space for Musiala to arrive late into the box or for the wide midfielders to find gaps between the lines. The front three work together to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long balls that the central defenders can easily intercept.
