The attacking unit utilizes three forwards to stretch the defence. Josef Martinez acts as a pressing centre-forward who leads the hunt from the front. He works to find the feet of the striker or run in behind the defenders. Arango and Lopez play as wide attackers, with Arango often cutting inside to create goalscoring chances. Lopez stays wide to pull defenders out of position, creating space for Josef Martinez to operate in the channels. They use quick combinations to break the line and attack the far post.

One major advantage for San Jose is the ability to create wide overloads from overlapping full backs. When Espinoza and Vitor Costa push high, they force the opposition to defend in much larger spaces. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can move from a mid-block to an attacking wave in seconds.
