FC Bayern Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Arda/M.Olisé · Musiala/Sancho · Wirtz/Silva · Pavlović/A.Stiller · Valverde/F.Ruiz · Kane/Havertz · Donnarumma/Neuer · MJ Kim/R.Dias · Kadıoğlu/Raum · Bastoni/Alaba · Hakimi/StanisićFC Bayern aim to play a high press and vertical game using a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and hit in behind on the transition. By controlling the central areas and forcing the opposition to play wide, the team can quickly move the ball forward to exploit gaps in the defensive line.
Manuel Neuer sits between the posts to manage the defensive line and organize the unit. The back four operates as a staggered back four where Hakimi or Stanisić act as attacking full backs to provide width. Kadıoğlu or Raum push up as overlapping full backs on the left, while MJ Kim and Bastoni serve as the central defenders. Bastoni acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back, while MJ Kim provides cover and strength in the air. The unit holds a high line to squeeze the space and keep the opposition pinned back.
The midfield is a five man unit that provides massive control. Pavlović or A.Stiller operates as a deep lying playmaker pairing with Valverde or F.Ruiz to shield the defence. This double pivot allows Wirtz or Silva to operate in the half spaces and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Arda or M.Olisé and Musiala or Sancho play as two tens in the half spaces to create chances. Musiala uses his dribbling style to carry the ball forward, while Wirtz looks to play through the lines to find the striker.
FC Bayern utilizes a lone striker in Harry Kane to lead the line. Kane acts as a target man who can hold up the ball and link up play between the lines. When the team wins the ball, the wide players like Arda or Musiala push high to support the attack. The wingers often cut inside to create numerical superiority in the middle. This movement creates runs in behind for Kane or allows the attacking midfielders to arrive late into the box.
A primary advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves through the midfield five. The team can also create wide overloads when Hakimi or Kadıoğlu overlap the winger to stretch the defence. This makes it very difficult for opponents to find space in the central areas during transition.
This formation is built for high intensity football that relies on quick recovery of the ball. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to play out from the back and leave space behind their midfield.
