Daegu aims to play a vertical and counter attacking style of football using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on sitting deep to absorb pressure before hitting the opposition with speed. The intention is to use the width of the pitch to stretch the game once the ball is won back high up the pitch.

Oh Seung Hoon starts between the posts to command his area. The defensive unit sits in a narrow defensive block featuring a back three of Yoshino Kyohei, Caio Marcelo, and Kim Jin Hyuk. Yoshino Kyohei acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks, while Caio Marcelo and Kim Jin Hyuk provide aerial strength and cover the space behind. On the flanks, Jeong Woo Jae and Hwang Jae Won operate as attacking wing backs. They are tasked to push up and provide width while tracking back to form a five man line when the team defends deep.

The midfield consists of a double pivot designed to hold the center. Bruno Lamas works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Cesinha operates in the right central midfield role. Cesinha is known for his technical dribbling and ability to create chances from tight spaces. This pair must stay compact to protect the back three and ensure they do not get caught between the lines. They act as the engine to recycle possession and immediately look to find the forwards in transition.

Up front, Daegu utilizes three attackers to pin the opposition defense. Edgar acts as a lone striker and is tasked to hold up the ball to bring others into play. On the wings, Jeong Chi In and Ko Jae Hyeon act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. This movement allows the wing backs to overlap the winger and deliver crosses into the box. The front three work together to press from the front and force the opponent into mistakes.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for Daegu. The use of three central defenders provides great compactness when defending against teams that use a single striker. There is also a high potential for wide overloads as Jeong Woo Jae and Hwang Jae Won move forward to support the wingers. This creates situations to isolate wide players in one on one battles during quick transitions.

The 5-2-3 formation makes Daegu a very difficult team to break down in a low block. It is best suited for games against possession based teams where the squad can exploit space on the counter.
