Starting Lineup

Misty (Melon) · vXorex · JJay · Ace · Sivicz · Mini · Flo · Muz · Bankai · Wason · Wudda

Valenciennes prefers to play a direct and counter attacking style of football with a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before launching quick attacks to catch opponents out of position. By using a heavy defensive base, the team aims to remain solid and then exploit the space left behind by high pressing sides.

Misty guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a central three with Mini acting as the middle man to command the area. Ace operates as the right centre back to cover the wide spaces, while vXorex plays as the left centre back to provide balance. Sivicz works as a right wing back to push up the flank and provide width, whereas JJay acts as the left wing back to support the defensive unit. This group works together to maintain a narrow defensive block that is hard to break through.

The midfield functions as a double pivot with Muz and Flo occupying the central spaces. Muz helps to shield the defense and wins the second ball to maintain control. Flo works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by carrying the ball forward when needed. These two players must work hard to cover the ground between the back five and the front three to ensure the team is not bypassed in the middle of the pitch.

Up front, the team utilizes three attackers to stretch the opposition. Wudda acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. On the wings, Bankai and Wason operate as wide attackers to provide service into the box. Bankai stays wide to pull defenders away, while Wason looks to cut inside and find space. This attacking unit relies on quick transitions to hit in behind the defense on the move.

One major advantage for Valenciennes is the compactness when defending in their low block. The five defenders and two midfielders create a wall that is difficult to penetrate. Another strength is the ability to use the wing backs to create wide overloads once the team wins the ball back. The combination of a solid defensive base and fast wingers allows for high speed of transition when moving from defense to attack.

This formation is designed to be a defensively solid unit that punishes teams on the break. It is best suited for matches against possession heavy opponents who leave gaps in their defensive line.
