RAYA · GABRIEL · SALIBA · CALAFIORI · TIMBER · PARTEY · RICE · ÖDEGAARD · TROSSARD · MARTINELLI · SAKA

Arsenal focuses on controlling the ball and winning it back high up the pitch through a 4-3-3. This formation is built to dominate territory and use short passing to break the line of the opposition. The Gunners look to control the tempo of the game by maintaining a high volume of passes and keeping the ball in tight spaces.

Raya stays between the posts to play short from the back. The back four features Timber at right back and Calafiori at left back. Saliba and Gabriel form the central pairing. Saliba acts as a ball playing defender with great composure, while Gabriel provides aerial strength to win the header in defensive situations. Timber and Calafiori often push high to provide width, which allows the team to spread wide during the build up. The defensive unit works to hold a high line and squeeze the space between the lines.

The central area utilizes a three-man midfield to manage the game. Partey sits as a single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Rice operates as a carrier who drives forward with the ball to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Ödegaard plays in the half spaces to create chances and finds the feet of the forwards. This midfield trio helps the team to control the center of the pitch and press aggressively to win the ball back.

In the attacking third, Martinelli and Saka provide the main width. Martinelli stays wide on the left to run in behind the defense, while Saka operates on the right and looks to cut inside to create. Trossard leads the line as a striker who can drop into the hole to link up play. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. This lineup creates many chances through quick combinations and through balls that split the defense.

A primary tactical advantage is the ability to press in coordinated waves to win the ball high up the pitch. The team also finds numerical superiority in the center of the park because Rice and Ödegaard can move into advanced positions to overwhelm the opponent. Arsenal can also shift to maintain compactness when defending in a mid-block.

This 4-3-3 formation is a possession based system designed to squeeze the space in the opponent half and dominate the ball. It is best suited for games against opponents that sit deep in a low block and deny the space behind.
