Starting Lineup

Maguire · Deligt · Yoro · Mazrou · Ugarte · Casemiro · Dalot · Zirkze · Bruno · Chidiobi · Onana

Man Utd aims to play with high intensity and directness, utilizing a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and hit opponents in transition. The team looks to use the width of the pitch to stretch the defence while maintaining a compact unit when the ball is lost.

Onana starts in goal to play out from the back and command his area. The back three consists of Maguire as the right centre-back, Deligt as the central defender, and Yoro as the left centre-back. Deligt acts as the leader in the middle, dominant in the air and capable of stepping into midfield to help with ball progression. Maguire provides aerial strength, while Yoro functions as a covering defender to sweep behind a high line. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space and protect the middle of the pitch.

The midfield operates with two central players, a double pivot, to control the central zone. Casemiro and Ugarte act as the engine room, where Casemiro shields the defence and Ugarte presses aggressively to win the ball high. They connect the defensive line to the attack by recycling possession and breaking the line with vertical passes. Dalot and Mazrou play as wide midfielders, providing the width by pushing up to overlap the attackers and stretching the play.

The attacking line features three players who work in close combinations. Chidiobi acts as the central striker, often tasked to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Bruno plays as an inverted winger on the left, looking to cut inside and find pockets of space. Zirkze operates on the right, often moving into the half-spaces to link up with the midfield. This front three presses from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

Manchester United finds success through several tactical advantages. The double pivot of Casemiro and Ugarte allows for compactness when defending the central area, making it hard for opponents to play through the lines. The formation also allows for wide overloads when Dalot and Mazrou push high, creating one on one situations for the forwards. This setup provides great speed of transition to catch the opposition out of position.

This 3-4-3 formation relies on aggressive pressing and rapid movement to catch teams on the break. It is best suited for matches against opponents who play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
